The African Scops owl (Otus senegalensis) is a small owl which is widespread in sub-Saharan Africa. It is one of the smallest owls measuring around 15–17 cm in length with a wingspan of 45 cm. This owl of mine is sleeping but with an ever watchful feeling (maybe peeping through the bottom of the closed lids for that illusive mouse running past. However in this state the incredibly sharp hearing will be on full alert.
